What are the best ways to clean diamond jewelry? We want to help you make the most of your jewelry. So, we asked our Master Goldsmith Sergio Chamahyan about jewelry cleaning and polishing tips. Diamonds get dirty. They pick up oil from your hands. Dust and dirt then collect in the oil. This can have a negative effect on a diamond’s appearance. Which is why it is recommended to clean and have jewelry checked every six months, especially if the item is worn frequently. Alternatively, one of the safest methods for cleaning jewelry at home makes use of a toothbrush and warm, soapy water. Gently brush the jewelry until the dirt and other residue is gone. However, the most effective way to keep your jewelry sparkling for more years to come is to take it to a jeweller who will clean it with commercial jewelry cleaners such as the ultrasonic cleaner and the steamer that remove dirt and build-up. Then they will make those visible scratches disappear by giving it a nice polish. Over time, diamond jewelry might require care beyond regular cleaning. Diamonds are very hard but they’re not indestructible. If they are loosened, they might scratch or chip from rubbing against each other or even fall out. The setter can tighten loose settings and make sure the diamonds are secure.
