Inspired by the recent arrival of the royal family in Victoria, B.C. for their 8 day tour, we’re looking at the most jewelry worn by the royals. From Kate Middleton’s iconic heirloom blue sapphire engagement ring to Queen Elizabeth II’s custom designed engagement ring from Prince Philip.
Blue Sapphire Engagement Ring
Perhaps, known for being one of the most iconic royal jewelry, Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton received Princess Diana’s engagement ring from her now husband, Prince William, in 2010. The stunning engagement ring has a 12-carat oval blue sapphire center stone, surrounded by 18 white diamonds. The ring stands as a significant reminder that his [Prince William] mother will always be a part of their growing family. You never know, maybe little Prince George will follow suit and give his grandmother’s ring to his future fiancé!
Maple Leaf Brooch
Coming out of their private jet with Princess Charlotte on her hip and Prince George in hand, the duchess steps out on a ravishing blue dress with a matching blue hat, maple leaf brooch and stunning blue earrings. Queen Elizabeth and Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla have also worn the diamond encrusted maple leaf brooch during their previous visits to Canada. On the right is the diamond maple leaf brooch, while the left is a custom design maple leaf brooch with red rubies.
Queen Elizabeth II’s Custom Design Engagement Ring
Known to be worn most often by the Queen, Prince Philip helped create a custom engagement ring design for his now wife of 69 years. Prince Philip reused the diamonds from his mother’s tiara, Princess Alice of Greece and Denmark, for the ring. It was said that Prince Philip knew exactly how he wanted the custom engagement ring to look like, and commissioned the project to jeweler, Philip Antrobus. The custom engagement ring has a 3-carat brilliant cut diamond centre stone, set on platinum.
Touched by the Queen and Prince Philip’s commitment, we created a modernized version of the Queen’s custom designed engagement ring (seen above). Our redesign version (on the right) has 18 white diamonds on bead set halo, claw setting on the round brilliant cut center stone and 3 bezel set diamonds on each side of the slender band. Below is the rose gold version with the 18 white diamonds channel set halo with the round brilliant cut diamond centre stone on bezel set. On both versions, we added a nest wire work detail to keep some vintage elements to the rings.
